Thanks a lot for your earnest prayer for our family. The 18th of  May was bad for our family. The devil took opportunity and tried to harm our  family. Swati, our younger daughter went out for tuition and she was missing  since 11 am. We had no idea where she was and what she was doing. I went to the  police station and complained about her missing. I ran here and there but could  not find her.

The Lord miraculously saved her life that day. She said that at about 11:30 she was returning home. Suddenly one young man held her from behind with a knife and shut her mouth, and then another young man came with a car. They both lifted her into the car and drove many miles away. She was beaten badly inside the vehicle. Then they brought her to a broken cottage, near  a highway. They were drunk and during this time, they drank again. In the  meantime Swati ran from there and reached that high way. She was trying to stop  the vehicles passing by. There was a mini-truck driver that showed mercy and  brought her in the city. Swati reached a phone at about 5:30pm and called our  home. At the time, I was in our main police station and our elder daughter,  Sumi, picked up her phone, and we went and brought Swati home.

Now she is  broken, and it's a big shock for her. Safety for women is a big issue to us now.  Swati is very quiet now, silent and always weeping. Fear has gripped her and she  is very scared. We do not know how to comfort her or wipe away fear from her.  Still, we do not know who did this to my innocent daughter. We all have anxiety  and do not know what needs to be done at this moment.

Please pray for God's guidance, protection and mercy for all of us. We could not have imagined such an incident. We now need to think a lot about our future security. Our police here think that it's our responsibility to provide safety for our daughters. Only God can give that in this dirty world. We may have to take Swati and our family to another place so that she will forget this incident. I am supposed to go on a trip in Uttranchal to start work among the most unreached tribe called RUNG; not sure whether I will go or cancel this trip. I left it in God's hands and direction.

Please pray for me as well.

While completing her senior year, Katie continued her mentoring at Christ Central and her affiliation with Child Evagelism Fellowship. She gave piano lessons, did some babysitting, and housecleaning to raise money for her trip to India which began in late July 2011. She wqas involved with our church's mission conference in February as well. The key note speaker at the conference, Fred Kornis, a long time friend from Kansas City, came to our home one night for supper with his wife Barbara. When he heard about Katie's desire to go to India to do mission work, Fred called one of his friends who runs an orphanage in India to see if Katie might be able to stay with them and help out there.

In early May, Don and Katie traveled to Kansas City to meet with Fred and a team of people who would be traveling to India in late July. There were also some missionaries from various countries at this conference, including the man who runs the orphanage in India where Katie would be staying. It was comforting for dad to meet the man who would be looking after his daughter for so many months! In late July, Katie met up with Fred's team and flew to India. After touching base at the orphanage for a day or two, the team traveled around to various mission stations in India for a few weeks, then returned to the orphanage. A few days later, the team returned to the states while Katie remained at the orphanage until early December. While there, she taught music, led devotions, helped the girls with schoolwork and loved on all 15 children. Katie was invited to spend Thanksgiving with Preston and Brenda in another part of India. They are well loved by our church in Aiken.

During Katie's stay at the orphanage, some people from London came to visit. They invited Katie to spend a week at their home in London before traveling back to South Carolina. Thanks to some strategic work by one of Fred's associates in Kansas City, flights were changed and Katie spent an action-packed week in London visiting cathedrals, castles, museums, and various historical sights.

We are grateful for God's protection during Katie's travels and for those who so graciously provided hospitality to her.
