The 18th of May was bad for our family. The devil took opportunity and tried to harm our family. Swati, our younger daughter went out for tuition and she was missing since 11 am. We had no idea where she was and what she was doing. I went to the police station and complained about her missing. I ran here and there but could not find her.

The Lord miraculously saved her life that day. She said that at about 11:30 she was returning home. Suddenly one young man held her from behind with a knife and shut her mouth, and then another young man came with a car. They both lifted her into the car and drove many miles away. She was beaten badly inside the vehicle. Then they brought her to a broken cottage, near a highway. They were drunk and during this time, they drank again. In the meantime Swati ran from there and reached that high way. She was trying to stop the vehicles passing by. There was a mini-truck driver that showed mercy and brought her in the city. Swati reached a phone at about 5:30pm and called our home. At the time, I was in our main police station and our elder daughter, Sumi, picked up her phone, and we went and brought Swati home.

Now she is broken, and it's a big shock for her. Safety for women is a big issue to us now. Swati is very quiet now, silent and always weeping. Fear has gripped her and she is very scared. We do not know how to comfort her or wipe away fear from her. Still, we do not know who did this to my innocent daughter. We all have anxiety and do not know what needs to be done at this moment.

Please pray for God's guidance, protection and mercy for all of us. We could not have imagined such an incident. We now need to think a lot about our future security. Our police here think that it's our responsibility to provide safety for our daughters. Only God can give that in this dirty world. We may have to take Swati and our family to another place so that she will forget this incident. I am supposed to go on a trip in Uttranchal to start work among the most unreached tribe called RUNG; not sure whether I will go or cancel this trip. I left it in God's hands and direction.

Please pray for me as well.

On the Road Again... by Fred Kornis

http://www.heartforhim.org/1/post/2012/04/on-the-road-again-by-fred-kornis.html

http://www.heartforhim.org/1/post/2012/04/on-the-road-again-by-fred-kornis.html#comments

Uncategorized

The term “road warrior” has been used often for me in my traveling missionary/evangelistic travels. The reality of networking and relationships is something that happens naturally as we love, listen and care about others. (Phil. 2:4) Out of the many churches we have ministered to and spoken at, most have changed Pastors and leaders several times through the years. Some have ‘merged’ with other groups of believers so our fellowship and influence changes. One example is Judson Baptist Church in Indiana where we traveled this week. Another group called Community Bible Ministries had supported our mission for 10 years but dissolved and merged with Judson. Thank God they had the heart to include their past Missionaries in the merge and continue to support us.

Pastor Gary asked me last year to come and share our heart and ministry with all the people! They gave me the youth, Sunday School classes, and main service with complete freedom. (MIRACLES NEVER CEASE!) I actually found myself in choking TEARS trying to express the burden we carry for the institutional churches and lost world. God manifested His presence in a precious way. We carry a big load of books, literature and supplies to GIVE AWAY to encourage, challenge and disciple the hungry of soul.

We had the privilege of re-uniting with a precious couple in Missouri who faithfully supported us with $25 each month since 1976. Today, Martha and Thomas are both in their 90’s and going strong! PTL!! We stayed in the home of a master machinist who does such amazing work on giant metal lays making custom gears on a farm in the country. Oh how God has such different gifts and passions for all His children--and anything can be done for His glory and purpose with the right heart. Stopping to see beloved Sara, a widow who now gives her extra time to running a pro-life outreach and teach native Indians in the Summer. A big divine appointment was an appointment with a Pakistani Pastor in Indianapolis who talked, prayed and encouraged me about our work in Pakistan. They may even send one of their Pakistani believers with me to Pakistan this year!! YEAH!! I was so privileged to stay in the home of our travel agent--Andy Kumar/City Express Travel--in-laws also from Pakistan.

God blessed the trip and connections with His people which is the passion and priority of H.I.M. Thanks for your continued prayers…

Volunteer Work Day by Danielle Bergey

http://www.heartforhim.org/1/post/2012/04/volunteer-work-day-by-danielle-bergey.html

http://www.heartforhim.org/1/post/2012/04/volunteer-work-day-by-danielle-bergey.html#comments

Uncategorized

Saturday morning displayed the utter beauty of Spring--new buds blooming on trees, bright sunshine, soft aromas--all reminding us of the New Life God has given us through His Son, Jesus Christ. Some picked up sticks and raked, others organized the closet full of ministry resources. Some worked on landscaping, others windows. Some people mopped, vacuumed, dusted, organized, cleaned, oiled the pews, and did all sorts of odd and end jobs. And, even though we didn't have as many volunteers as we expected, it is amazing how much got done!

Nancy and I had the task of reorganizing and cleaning the kitchen. I don't think I have ever seen that many spatulas, spoons, and ladles before in my life (which, I know, isn't very extensive). But, we went on undetterred, antibacterial wipes in hand. We took utensils out of drawers and cupboards, wiped down all the surfaces, and reorganized most items, to make the kitchen more efficient. After (and before) that, Nancy and I went off to see how else we could be of use.

All in all the Chapel now looks pristine, full of that post-Spring cleaning glow. I know how hard everyone worked and we at HIM want to say a huge THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts.

"One day with the Lord is as a thousand years..." or in other words, 7 thousand years! by Fred Kornis

http://www.heartforhim.org/1/post/2012/03/one-day-with-the-lord-is-as-a-thousand-years-or-in-other-words-7-thousand-years-by-fred-kornis.html

http://www.heartforhim.org/1/post/2012/03/one-day-with-the-lord-is-as-a-thousand-years-or-in-other-words-7-thousand-years-by-fred-kornis.html#comments

Uncategorized

After weeks of planning and preparations, we finally arrived in the capital, Managua. We arrived about 10:30pm, after being stranded with 5,000 other travelers in Houston for 24 hours. The same big yellow school bus we had driven from Kansas to Miami and shipped to Honduras years ago was now in front of the airport loaded with Pastors and friends to welcome us. The 20 years of training and disciplining in Nicaragua has paid off with mature and growing leaders scattered throughout the country.

At the request of the local leaders this week the focus would be devoted especially to the wives and families. With a complete course book in Spanish and two quality translators, we were ready to pour our hearts into these dear believers. In spite of a national crisis with the main Pan-American highway being blocked daily, we pressed on through military and armed soldiers guarding all traffic. At one point 2,000 protesters had gathered just in front of our ministry center. The day we left they had surrounded a tanker truck of fuel with bales of hay and threatened to blow it up and ruin the road! Praise the Lord we were able to carry on and most of the attendees were able to be there.

Faith (my daughter) and Rebecca (my grand daughter-15) were able to join the team and help teach and prepare big gift bags for all the ladies. Many of these precious women live far away and have little education or opportunity. This week was designed to "bless" them with training, books, materials, gifts, free quality food and
board, certificates, and cash for their personal needs and families! Praise the Lord for all who PRAYED and gave to make all this possible! After 2 1/2 days of sweet fellowship and ministry their husbands came to be challenged to honor, support and bless their wives in a new way. On Sat. there was a grand "re-newing" of vows for every Pastor and his wife- complete with a beautiful wedding cake for all!! BUILDING STRONG FAMILIES IS THE FOUNDATION FOR A SUCCESSFUL MINISTRY AND CHURCH!

The specially hand made back-packs for the Ladies were loaded with practical things such as combs, brushes, hair clips, soaps, shampoos, pencils/pens, calculators, flash lights, candies, sewing kits, Spanish literature and books, shavers, calenders, toys, toothbrushes/toothpaste, etc, With the extra cash this was a thrilling and
practical experience for all the wives.

It is impossible to explain all the other 'spin-off' involvements with local families, business people and the strangers we encountered daily- but only GOD is keeping the final "records" which will be fruit forever in heaven. Thanks again for your part to encourage and "send" us to such needy and neglected places in the world. Hopefully you can see related photos somewhere here in cyber-space!

The Nicaragua Story by Fred Kornis

http://www.heartforhim.org/1/post/2012/03/the-nicaragua-story-by-fred-kornis.html

http://www.heartforhim.org/1/post/2012/03/the-nicaragua-story-by-fred-kornis.html#comments

Uncategorized

Victor was a young "boy" who had given his life to the Lord. He lived a simple life in a town that felt like the 1950s! His hunger for the Word and call from God motivated us to invest in him personally. We had just helped start a small group of Bible believing pastors there who were suffering and rejected by liberal politicians and denominations. The country was torn from 10 years of civil war in Nicaragua. I was asked to oversee training and education for these dear brothers who had little or no formal training. Victor was hungry to learn and joined our group. The first priority was to provide new Thompson Chain Reference Bibles in Spanish that would cost about 2-3 months of their income. Most had old worn out paperback Bibles--if any! Victor continued to grow and mature through the years and now has become the leader of this fellowship of nearly 40 Pastors. He has a lovely wife and 2 children which are all involved in his ministry as a Pastor and "President" of ACIBEN (Association of Christian Baptist Churches of Nicaragua). We have a deep and close family-like fellowship with these Pastors which God has created in our hearts.

Over the past 20 years we have continued to provide and facilitate over 60 seminars and training programs to build long-term disciples and leaders. Next to Haiti, NICARAGUA is the poorest country in our hemisphere. Very few make over $200 a month. H.I.M. is actively involved in encouraging and resourcing these church leaders with your help and prayers. Now there is also a thriving Christian School with 150+ students and Bible Training Center. We have purchased, prepared, loaded and shipped five diesel school buses into Nicaragua in order to help equip and resource this indigenous group of over 35 churches.

Now we leave again this week to "invest" in strengthening the FAMILIES of these churches. In so many developing countries the women are abused, neglected and uneducated. We have made it a priority to teach, train and encourage the Pastors to honor and bless their wives and the women in their churches. That can be very counter-culture (radical/strange) in many places of the world. The Pastors have agreed to let their wives come to be blessed, trained and encouraged. Some of the men will have to stay home and take care of the house and kids! (Men should do that everywhere now and then !!) The ladies will have all their meals, snacks, transportation and lodging provided free and fresh teaching with new FAMILY resource books in Spanish. Personal care and counseling will be provided by my daughter Faith Bilyeu and her daughter Rebecca who will be on our team. Joe and Jo Hughes (our missionary co-workers from the Philippines) will be providing their powerful specialized teaching and tools also (www.equippersgroup.org). With quality translators we will pour love and truth into them for 2-1/2 days...then their husbands/Pastors will come for 2 days of the same principles...THEN the wives will return on the last day for a climax of celebration and "renewing" of their wedding vows! WOW!? How exciting! This will have such powerful ripples through all the churches and the communities. And Victor's wife will be there to soak in truth and life from the Word. This is what H.I.M. is all about!

By the way--THANKS to many who have prayed and helped. We will be carrying over 150 pounds of gifts for these dear ladies that include:
     -Backpacks, books/literature, pens/pencils
     -Toothbrushes/paste, hair brushes/combs
     -Sewing kits, candies, datebooks, calculators
     -Flashlights, cookbooks, toiletries, tracts, etc.
-Special certificates and cash for personal needs!

PLEASE pray as H.I.M has many such programs happening around the world with our PALS and associates that God is using to build His Body and Bride!!

Book Review by Danielle Bergey: The Robe by Lloyd C. He then sets forth on a quest to find the truth about the Nazarene's robe--a quest that reaches to the very roots and heart of Christianity and is set against the vividly lined background of ancient Rome. Here is a timeless story of adventure, faith, and Romance; a tale of spiritual longing and ultimate redemption.”

This book, if you are not used to reading classic literature, will take you about 50 pages to get into, but once you do, you won’t be able to put it down. The Robe was written in 1942 and became a bestseller in the 1940s. It was also on the New York Times Best Seller list in 1940, and then reached #1 four weeks later.

How do you describe such a well-written, beautifully crafted book of realistic, historical fiction? This book changed my spiritual outlook and is still my husband’s favorite; he has read it 25 times so far. There are subtle
nuances in characters, plot, and emotion that keep the reader coming back for more. Douglas does a fantastic job at researching historical and biblical events in Jesus’ time and crafting a story that brings the characters alive. The Robe centers on a Roman soldier who gives up everything for a man he never met, yet yearns to know: Jesus Christ. The soldier, Marcellus, wins Jesus’ robe while casting lots, but what he didn’t know was how it would change him.

Marcellus shouts from the mountain tops about this Christ whom he let die, trying to persuade his family, friends, and servants of Jesus’holiness. Along the way, Marcellus gets to meet some apostles who guide him through being a Christian. I don’t want to give up all the exciting twists and turns of the story, but just know that you will be joyfully crying by the end.

An Intern to India by The Tucker Family

http://www.heartforhim.org/1/post/2012/02/an-intern-to-india-by-the-tucker-family.html

http://www.heartforhim.org/1/post/2012/02/an-intern-to-india-by-the-tucker-family.html#comments

Uncategorized

While completing her senior year, Katie continued her mentoring at Christ Central and her affiliation with Child Evagelism Fellowship. She gave piano lessons, did some babysitting, and housecleaning to raise money for her trip to India which began in late July 2011. She wqas involved with our church's mission conference in February as well. The key note speaker at the conference, Fred Kornis, a long time friend from Kansas City, came to our home one night for supper with his wife Barbara. When he heard about Katie's desire to go to India to do mission work, Fred called one of his friends who runs an orphanage in India to see if Katie might be able to stay with them and help out there.

In early May, Don and Katie traveled to Kansas City to meet with Fred and a team of people who would be traveling to India in late July. There were also some missionaries from various countries at this conference, including the man who runs the orphanage in India where Katie would be staying. It was comforting for dad to meet the man who would be looking after his daughter for so many months! In late July, Katie met up with Fred's team and flew to India. After touching base at the orphanage for a day or two, the team traveled around to various mission stations in India for a few weeks, then returned to the orphanage. A few days later, the team returned to the states while Katie remained at the orphanage until early December. While there, she taught music, led devotions, helped the girls with schoolwork and loved on all 15 children. Katie was invited to spend Thanksgiving with Preston and Brenda in another part of India. They are well loved by our church in Aiken.

During Katie's stay at the orphanage, some people from London came to visit. They invited Katie to spend a week at their home in London before traveling back to South Carolina. Thanks to some strategic work by one of Fred's associates in Kansas City, flights were changed and Katie spent an action-packed week in London visiting cathedrals, castles, museums, and various historical sights.

We are grateful for God's protection during Katie's travels and for those who so graciously provided hospitality to her.

Go to http://carryingthelight4him.blogspot.com/ to find out more about Katie's experiences.

"In the beginning, God..." by Bob Zoller

http://www.heartforhim.org/1/post/2012/02/in-the-beginning-god-by-bob-zoller.html

http://www.heartforhim.org/1/post/2012/02/in-the-beginning-god-by-bob-zoller.html#comments

Uncategorized

Just four words that separates the “nothingness” from the “here and now”. God made a time and space for us to live in. God himself is outside of this realm that he made for us, and yet he purposefully and lovingly created this universe for us to enjoy… and in the beginning it was all good. All of creation, the sky, earth, trees, animals, and plants were good. And Mankind was very goo [...]

And Mankind was very good, as He breathed an eternal living soul into each of us.

We’ve been studying Genesis in our Sunday School class this year… and have made it through one whole chapter in 5 weeks… I’ve been trying to also slow my own learning down and thinking more deeply this year. If the Bible didn’t have Genesis 1… we’d always be thinking, “Yes, but what about before that… what happened then, before?” I Praise the Lord that He didn’t leave us wondering, because God tells us that He was there and he started everything for all of us… and it was all good! Only after man’s rebellion against God did sin enter the world and everything was suddenly, “not good”.

The whole concept of God speaking, creating, then blessing (or adoring) his creation, was the way He chose to do it. We do the same thing… we think or say something, we then act on it until completion, then rest in the satisfaction of a job well done. This pattern was put into our hearts by God… the part of being “made in His image”.

What are you thinking or saying this year? What are your goals that you want to act on? What are you reflecting on that you just finished, and are blessing/adoring?

Let’s take the time to reflect on what God has done for us this year of 2012. In our own “space and time” that God gave each of us, let us press on ahead for His Glory, not dwelling in the past, but living out the full gospel day by day, and even hour by hour.

From the New Kid on the Blog By Vicki Andersen

http://www.heartforhim.org/1/post/2012/01/from-the-new-kid-on-the-blog-by-vicki-andersen3.html

http://www.heartforhim.org/1/post/2012/01/from-the-new-kid-on-the-blog-by-vicki-andersen3.html#comments

Uncategorized

_As the newly appointed Administrative Assistant to Fred Kornis and Vicky Rogers at Heartland International Ministries, I see exciting times ahead for all of us at H.I.M. These would include, but not be limited to, assisting with clerical tasks and management of the office, as well as designing teaching tool aids, and maintaining the website. I will be posting regular blogs with updates of my progress and specific prayer requests regarding this transition time. It is my desire to be as available as possible, so please feel free to contact me anytime by email: vickia@heartforhim.org.

My main goal at H.I.M. is that Jesus is glorified in all that I say and do. So, I guess my first prayer request would be that I will keep that at the top of my list of goals; to not lose sight of Jesus and HIM glorified.

Rest by Vicky Rogers

http://www.heartforhim.org/1/post/2012/01/rest-by-vicky-rogers.html

http://www.heartforhim.org/1/post/2012/01/rest-by-vicky-rogers.html#comments

Uncategorized

This past week I came down with some kind of "bug", which stopped me from going to the office and working. What is it with our mentality in today's world...that we need to always be "doing" something or "working"...even in the "office" world, if you're not "working" every minute, they say you are not "productive". The Lord seems to show us as believers that one cannot be "productive" if we [...]

This past week I came down with some kind of "bug", which stopped me from going to the office and working. What is it with our mentality in today's world...that we need to always be "doing" something or "working"...even in the "office" world, if you're not "working" every minute, they say you are not "productive".

The Lord seems to show us as believers that one cannot be "productive" if we do not make time to "be still and know that He is God..." (Ps. 46:10). It is during those "still" moments that God refreshes us and causes us to be more productive...for His glory. I seem to always know when it is time to find some "quiet moments" to refresh my body, mind, and spirit...usually when I am overwhelmed with tasks at hand...and when I don't make that time, He will allow me to be sick...then it is time. :-)

So the next time you are overwhelmed with all of life's pressures, "give it all to Jesus"...He wants to carry our burdens for us ("...casting all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you." 1 Peter 5:7. One must note that before we "cast our anxieties on Him" in verse 7, the author says one must "Humble yourselves...under the mighty hand of God..." in verse 6.)

Have a "restful" year!
